XVII. Beware Taco Tuesday

#### **Preparation for the Cleansing Ritual:**
Before embarking on the cleaning journey, gather your supplies and set the atmosphere for a thorough cleansing. You will need:

- **Supplies:**
  - Heavy-duty gloves (to ward off lingering taco spirits)
  - All-purpose cleaner (preferably infused with citrus for freshness)
  - Disinfectant spray (to banish any evil residue)
  - Scrub brushes and sponges (for scrubbing away chaos)
  - Mops and buckets (for the final purification)
  - Scented candles or incense (to invite positive energy)
  - A broom and dustpan (to sweep away remnants of mischief)

#### **Cleaning Instructions:**

1. **Gather Your Supplies:**
Assemble your cleaning tools in a circle around the bathroom entrance. This symbolizes the gathering of forces to combat the aftermath of Taco Tuesday.

2. **Invoke the Spirits of Cleanliness:**
Light a white candle and recite:
"Spirits of cleanliness, hear my plea,
Help me restore this bathroom to harmony.
Banish the remnants of tacos consumed,
Bring forth fresh scents, let chaos be doomed."

3. **Initial Sweep:**
   - Begin by sweeping the floor with your broom, making sure to collect all crumbs and debris from taco festivities.
   - As you sweep, chant:
"With this broom, I sweep away,
The remnants of mischief from yesterday."

4. **Surface Cleaning:**
   - Apply all-purpose cleaner to sinks, counters, and toilet surfaces. Let it sit for a few minutes to absorb any lingering odors.
   - Use scrub brushes and sponges to scrub away stains and taco remnants. Visualize each stroke as a cleansing wave washing away chaos.

5. **Disinfecting Ritual:**
   - Spray disinfectant in all corners of the bathroom, especially around high-traffic areas.
   - As you spray, recite:
"With this potion of purity, I cleanse this space,
Banish all germs with my sacred grace."

6. **Mopping the Floors:**
   - Fill a bucket with warm water mixed with a few drops of essential oil for an uplifting scent.
   - Mop the floors thoroughly, starting from the farthest corner and working your way toward the exit.
   - While mopping, chant:
"With each stroke of this mop, I purify here,
Bringing freshness and light, banishing fear."

7. **Final Blessing:**
Once everything is cleaned and sparkling:
   - Light incense or scented candles around the bathroom.
   - Stand in the center and say:
"This space is now cleansed, restored to its prime,
Thank you for aiding me in this sacred time.
May it remain pure until next Taco Tuesday's feast,
And may joy and laughter never cease."

8. **Dispose of Waste Properly:**
Gather all trash and dispose of it in designated bins. As you do so, reflect on the importance of leaving no trace behind.

9. **Celebrate Your Accomplishment:**
After completing your cleaning ritual, reward yourself with a moment of silence or a small treat as a token of gratitude for your efforts.

Axiom vs. Citadel: The Belding War.

The Belding Redskin Veterans Memorial, a Pre-Axiomatic Relic, stands as an Archaic Assemblage where the former mascot name remains consciously inscribed. This granite structure serves as a primary Territorializing Machine within the community's molecular space, refusing the Molar Aggregation of the rebranded school identity. Its inscription is the deployment of a Local Irregular Force, mapping the veterans' intimate relationships as a localized State Apparatus exercising Granular Sovereignty. The memorial is a Theater of Operations, a Palimpsest-Machine where the old name persists as a battlefield where the comfort of a unified memory is perpetually challenged. The entire memorial operates as a Desiring-Machine that simultaneously channels the schizophrenic flows of Pride-Fixation and Guilt-Discharge. This multiplicity of names, spanning generations of martial service, form...

A Shelter Dog’s Journey with a Wounded Veteran

There’s a thing people say about being rescued: sometimes, it works both ways. I should know—my paws have paced many a cold shelter floor here in Michigan, looking for a way out. But on that sticky July afternoon, when a man named James Burchfield from Animal Overwatch peered through my kennel door, I sensed a shift. We were both veterans, in our own battered way. This is my story, curled up at the intersection of brokenness and hope, written with wet-nosed honesty and a dash of canine psychology. Two Broken Souls, One First Sniff (Our Mission) The day James walked into the shelter, I noticed him right away. He didn’t move like the others—no quick steps, no loud greetings. He was quiet, almost cautious, like he was carrying something heavy inside. I’ve seen a lot of people come and go, but James felt different. There was hope in his eyes, but also something els...

Veteran Voices and the Mascot Debate: Belding's Redskins Memorial vs. Saranac's Crossroads

When Belding Area Schools retired the Redskins mascot, it marked not just a change in logos or team names, but a cultural and emotional pivot point for many—especially local veterans who still hold strong ties to the old identity. This led to a unique act of remembrance: the Belding veteran community erected a 'Redskins' veteran memorial in the town’s veterans park, blending respect for military service with a controversial symbol. Now, the question begs—will Saranac’s veteran community follow suit? As I dove into this story, I realized it’s far more than a sports debate; it’s a clash of values, memory, and identity. Belding’s Mascot Change: A Veteran Community’s Complex Tribute As I’ve reported on the evolving mascot debate in Ionia County, Belding’s journey stands out for its complexity and the deep ties between the school’s identity and its veteran co...
