XXXIV. Hawk Touha Girl’s Epic Quest

**Narrator:** In a shadowy realm where the moon hung low and the winds whispered secrets, there lay a cursed town named Belding. Known for its insatiable hunger, the townsfolk had developed a peculiar taste—not for food, but for the soft, furry kittens that roamed freely.

**[Scene 1: The Arrival of Hawk Touha Girl]**

*Under a shroud of darkness, Hawk Touha Girl, a fierce warrior with feathers woven into her hair and eyes like glimmering stars, rode into Belding on her midnight steed.*

**Hawk Touha Girl:** (determined) I have come to save the kittens from this wretched town! Their cries echo in my heart!

*As she entered, the townspeople peered from their windows, their eyes gleaming with hunger and malice.*

**Narrator:** Unbeknownst to Hawk Touha, lurking in the shadows was her loyal companion, Captain Redd—a pirate with a heart of gold and a penchant for mischief.

**[Scene 2: The Pirate's Entrance]**

*Captain Redd emerged from the gloom, his tattered coat billowing like a ghostly sail.*

**Captain Redd:** (grinning) Ahoy, Hawk! I heard tell of your noble quest! Let me join ye in this grim endeavor!

**Hawk Touha Girl:** (smiling) Together we shall thwart these ravenous townsfolk and rescue the innocent kittens!

*They clasp hands, sealing their pact of bravery amidst the encroaching darkness.*

**[Scene 3: The Plot Unfolds]**

*As night deepened, Hawk Touha Girl and Captain Redd devised a cunning plan. They would lure the townsfolk away from their feline prey by creating an illusion of abundance.*

**Hawk Touha Girl:** (whispering) We shall craft a feast so grand that even the most starved will be drawn away!

*They gathered scraps and remnants from the town’s refuse, fashioning them into an enticing display that shimmered under the moonlight.*

**[Scene 4: The Deception]**

*The townsfolk emerged from their homes, drawn by the scent of the faux feast. Their eyes widened with greed as they rushed toward it.*

**Ginger Townsfolk:** (cheering) A banquet! Our hunger shall be sated!

*While they feasted on illusions, Hawk Touha Girl and Captain Redd stealthily made their way to the hidden lair where the kittens were kept—an old barn shrouded in shadows.*

**[Scene 5: The Rescue Mission]**

*Inside the barn, they found cages filled with trembling kittens, their tiny mews echoing in despair.*

**Hawk Touha Girl:** (softly) Fear not, little ones! We shall free you from this torment!

*With swift hands, they unlocked each cage, releasing the frightened creatures who immediately began to purr and nuzzle against Hawk Touha’s legs.*

**Captain Redd:** (chuckling) A fine crew we have here! Now let us make our escape before those greedy folk return!

**[Scene 6: The Great Escape]**

*Just as they prepared to leave with their newfound friends—the kittens—the townsfolk began to realize they had been tricked.*

**Ginger Townsfolk Leader:** (furiously) Where are our precious kittens? To arms!

*Hawk Touha Girl and Captain Redd dashed out of the barn with all the kittens nestled in their arms. As they sprinted through the darkened streets, they could hear footsteps pounding behind them.*

**[Scene 7: The Final Showdown]**

*In a thrilling chase through twisted alleys and overgrown paths, Hawk Touha Girl led bravely while Captain Redd shouted encouragement.*

**Captain Redd:** (yelling) Steer left! Quick now!

*They reached a cliff overlooking a dark abyss. With nowhere else to go, they halted.*

**Hawk Touha Girl:** (defiantly) We will not let you take what is innocent!

*The ginger townsfolk halted at the edge of the cliff, panting heavily as they caught up to their prey.*

**Ginger Townsfolk Leader:** (shouting) You think you can escape with our treasures?

**Hawk Touha Girl:** (bravely) These kittens are not treasures; they are lives worth saving!

*Suddenly, an eerie silence fell over them as a ghostly figure appeared—a spectral cat with glowing eyes.*

**Ghostly Cat:** (in a haunting voice) Let them go! For true treasure lies not in possession but in compassion.

*The townsfolk paused, contemplating its words. Slowly but surely, their anger faded into confusion.*

**[Scene 8: A New Beginning]**

*Realizing their folly, the ginger townsfolk stepped back. Hawk Touha Girl and Captain Redd took this opportunity to flee down a hidden path leading to safety.*

**Narrator:** And so it was that Hawk Touha Girl saved not only the kittens but also taught Belding’s inhabitants about mercy. From that day forth, Belding became known for its kindness rather than its hunger.

*As for Hawk Touha Girl and Captain Redd? They continued their adventures together—forever united by bravery and friendship—vowing never to forget those who needed saving most.*

Axiom vs. Citadel: The Belding War.

The Belding Redskin Veterans Memorial, a Pre-Axiomatic Relic, stands as an Archaic Assemblage where the former mascot name remains consciously inscribed. This granite structure serves as a primary Territorializing Machine within the community's molecular space, refusing the Molar Aggregation of the rebranded school identity. Its inscription is the deployment of a Local Irregular Force, mapping the veterans' intimate relationships as a localized State Apparatus exercising Granular Sovereignty. The memorial is a Theater of Operations, a Palimpsest-Machine where the old name persists as a battlefield where the comfort of a unified memory is perpetually challenged. The entire memorial operates as a Desiring-Machine that simultaneously channels the schizophrenic flows of Pride-Fixation and Guilt-Discharge. This multiplicity of names, spanning generations of martial service, form...

A Shelter Dog’s Journey with a Wounded Veteran

There’s a thing people say about being rescued: sometimes, it works both ways. I should know—my paws have paced many a cold shelter floor here in Michigan, looking for a way out. But on that sticky July afternoon, when a man named James Burchfield from Animal Overwatch peered through my kennel door, I sensed a shift. We were both veterans, in our own battered way. This is my story, curled up at the intersection of brokenness and hope, written with wet-nosed honesty and a dash of canine psychology. Two Broken Souls, One First Sniff (Our Mission) The day James walked into the shelter, I noticed him right away. He didn’t move like the others—no quick steps, no loud greetings. He was quiet, almost cautious, like he was carrying something heavy inside. I’ve seen a lot of people come and go, but James felt different. There was hope in his eyes, but also something els...

Veteran Voices and the Mascot Debate: Belding's Redskins Memorial vs. Saranac's Crossroads

When Belding Area Schools retired the Redskins mascot, it marked not just a change in logos or team names, but a cultural and emotional pivot point for many—especially local veterans who still hold strong ties to the old identity. This led to a unique act of remembrance: the Belding veteran community erected a 'Redskins' veteran memorial in the town’s veterans park, blending respect for military service with a controversial symbol. Now, the question begs—will Saranac’s veteran community follow suit? As I dove into this story, I realized it’s far more than a sports debate; it’s a clash of values, memory, and identity. Belding’s Mascot Change: A Veteran Community’s Complex Tribute As I’ve reported on the evolving mascot debate in Ionia County, Belding’s journey stands out for its complexity and the deep ties between the school’s identity and its veteran co...
